18 June: «How Incentive Failures Undermine Cyber Security»

Why do so many technical security measures fail for reasons beyond just technology? Our upcoming MINT’talk explores the often overlooked structural incentives in cybersecurity that impact us all. These measures frequently fall short not due to technology, but because of misaligned incentives – regulatory, economic, or political. A topic that reflects our values within the Glue Group: open technologies, digital independence, and meaningful data protection.

Speaker: Christian Folini – Security expert, historian & open-source advocate Christian Folini is a renowned security expert, co-author of the ModSecurity WAF Handbook, and former coordinator of the OWASP CRS Project. He represents civil society on the steering committee of the Swiss National Cyber Strategy and co-organizes the Swiss Cyber Storm conference. Alongside his IT expertise, he brings a unique academic background: as a trained medieval historian, he links cybersecurity with historical insight and analyses social and political developments with technical precision. His talks are critical, engaging – and often surprisingly entertaining.

Join us as Christian Folini reveals how misaligned incentives in politics, business, and regulation quietly erode IT security – with clarity, expertise, and a surprising dose of humor. A must for anyone interested in digitalization, open source, and the future of cybersecurity.
