From Apprentice to Software Professional: Thierry's Journey at Glue

We’re proud: Thierry Klötzli has successfully passed his apprenticeship final exam as a Computer Scientist EFZ, specializing in Application Development!

Four years of training lie behind him – a time full of technical challenges, personal growth, and valuable contributions to our software solutions.

From hobby tinkerer to software professional

Already in secondary school, it was clear to Thierry that technology was more than just a hobby for him. From assembling his own PC, his curiosity eventually led him to programming.

“I’ve always been fascinated not just by the hardware, but by understanding how software brings a system to life. At Glue, I was able to translate that curiosity into professional practice.” – Thierry Klötzli

Four years at the heart of Glue’s projects

After his foundational training at the Berufsbildungscenter (Bbc), Thierry moved into Glue’s operational area starting in his second year. Our apprentices don’t work on practice exercises with us – they’re an integral part of our development teams.

During his apprenticeship, Thierry worked alongside our software developers on projects such as UPReg and eGRIS – two long-standing projects Glue delivers for the Swiss federal government. He also contributed in the field of Data Excellence, developing an energy dashboard where he visualized data flows using open-source technologies such as Apache Superset. In addition, he provided significant support in the further development of our electronic signature solution eSignR.

A passion project: EduRate

A real highlight of his training was the development of EduRate. With support from Jérôme Poffet and Adrian Greiler, our two training managers, Thierry designed and implemented his own evaluation tool for education reports. This tool now replaces the previous manual PDF-based processes for education reports with an efficient, digital solution. This project perfectly illustrates what training means at Glue: our apprentices develop solutions that noticeably improve everyday work at Glue and for our clients.

Technical foundation

Over the course of his apprenticeship, Thierry built up a broad technical skillset. Today, he works confidently with Java in the backend and Angular in the frontend, and also brings experience with Docker Compose and HTML.

“Not routine, but real room to shape things”

What does Thierry particularly value about Glue? “Here, you’re not just a number. You’re given trust, responsibility, and above all, room to grow. There’s hardly any routine, because we work on such a wide variety of projects. The flat hierarchies and the family-like atmosphere make everyday work uncomplicated and personal.”

Adrian Greiler, Thierry’s training manager, adds:

“Working with Thierry is genuinely enjoyable, since he doesn’t just keep up – he thinks ahead and brings a lot of his own input. We try to accommodate our apprentices’ interests and preferences as much as possible. Since Thierry has such broad interests, that’s always been an enrichment.”

Moving forward together

We’re delighted that Thierry Klötzli will remain part of our software engineering team. He will now focus intensively on the new single sign-on feature for eSignR – a key step in further improving the usability of our signature solution. More about eSignR

And when Thierry isn’t working on a solution? You’ll find him weight training. There, he shows the same focus and drive as in his development work.

Congratulations, Thierry – we look forward to many more shared successes!
